Homemade Outdoor Window Cleaner

The DIRTY windows drives me nuts!
Its been awhile since I attempted to clean them.
So I found a solution to this problem: make some Window cleaner!

I have posted the recipe for you below(I got it from here):
1/2 bottle (3.5 oz) of Jet Dry
4 Tbl. Alcohol
1/4 cup Ammonia
1/4 cup powdered Dishwasher Soap (I used Walmart brand)
2 gallons HOT water

Dissolve the Dishwasher Soap into the Hot water.
Then add the rest of the ingredients into a plastic bucket or tub.
TO CLEAN:
Step 1: Spray the window with the hose
Step 2: Wipe the window down with a microfiber 'mop" in the cleaning solution
Step 3: Spray with the hose again.
Air dry.

**TIP: I found that I had better results when I used a squeegee
to remove the excess water instead of just letting it air dry.

Kids "Daily Duties" Board

Pretty soon we will have to get back into the swing of things with school starting. The paper chore charts we have done in the past have not worked out so I thought I might change and try something new.
I built these boards(13"x13") with plywood and beadboard and attached some 12"x12" magnet boards with E6000 glue.
Adhere the vinyl.
For the "duties" I used the glass pebbles, paper & mini magnets.

{Cleaning} Apron

To make it easier for the kids to do their cleaning jobs I made them Cleaning Aprons. The aprons have pockets to hold the cleaners & rags.

I had some jean material to use. Cut 2 pieces of fabric into a rectangle(23"x15"). Cut 2 pieces of fabric(23"x7") for the pocket strip. Nice & heavy Duty.

Sew around. I didn't sew a finished edge because they only use them once a week & with jean I like the "aged" look.

For the top to tie around waist:

Cut 1 piece of fabric (5"x65"). Fold in & iron.

Attach the "tie" to the top of the jean fabric. Starting at one end of the "tie" stitch across the top, side, bottom, then other side.

Finished.

You could also put grommets on the rags & use the office badge clips(found at Walmart) to attach to the apron. Pin It

Kids Room {Cleaning} Checklist

On Saturdays we clean our home.

One of the jobs each child has is to clean their own room. Since most kids idea of the room clean is different from the moms, our kids are no different. I wanted a list where they could check off but also I could double check when I came to inspect. I was inspired by Ang's idea to put a type of checklist by the lightswitches in each room. I tried that & our lists seemed to fall down &/or disappear.

I found these hooks that have a sticky top(found in the hardware section) and thought they would be perfect to actually stick on the lightswitch(lightswitches are inexpensive to change later if need be). I added a letter to the top and applied it to the lightswitch. Then with pliers, bent the hook towards itself so the pocket wouldn't fall off as easy.

Since its plastic the dry erase markers work very well. When they are done with that certain job in their room they just fill in the block with the dry erase marker. Go here to print one.

o look at the Cleaning Checklist all week long, we will have another piece of paper in front. They can choose to put their favorite quote or scripture they are trying to memorize(each week to go with our FHE lesson we have scriptures to reflect back on that lesson).

{Rewards} for Chores

Lately when I have asked my kids to do the everyday type Chores they have grunted and groaned(with the weird looking face) to even do them. So the other day when I got my Family Fun Magazine I was thrilled to read an article(I would link the article but couldn't find it on the site) that inspired me to try something new. She got some jars, put her kids' names on them & printed up a job list using a "stone" point system. Each job had a certain number of "stones" they could earn. For example:brushing teeth = 1 stone, unloading dishwaher = 3 stones. But if they choose to treat others unkindly they get some of their stones taken away. When it was full she rewarded them with going on a date with a parent, money or something else. I think this will be perfect for my son who is finally potty training.
I am so excited to try this, this summer.

I got these containers & "stones" at the dollar store and put their pictures in them.

I glued ribbon to decorate the lid.

This is the side view with the "fill line" and the "stones"(looks like Boomerangs). I think I'm going to explain the meaning of a Boomerang & relate it to chores.

My four kiddos & their jars ready to go.
