Halloween {Countdown} #2

Our son is 5 and can't wait for Trick or Treat night!
So he doesn't have to ask me everyday "how many more days until. . . ". We made his very own simple Countdown.

He wrote the numbers by himself and each day he'll put one of the foam stickers we used in Halloween Countdown #1. Pin It

Halloween {Countdown} #1

I love the excitement Countdowns bring for special events.
Candle Holders can get a little spendy, so I decided to make my own.

I found the vases at the second hand store & the dowel and faucet flanges at the Home Improvement store.

Flanges up close.

1- Cut the dowel (mine is 3/4"x14") to fit inside of your vase. Drill a hole at the top(or you could drill a hole for an eye screw-which I should have done, my dowels broke a little with drilling). I put rocks in the base of the vase to weight it down. Also squeeze some glue down there.

2- Take some pliers to fold in the middle part of the flange. It will make it tight around the dowel.

3- Glue, using E6000, the ring onto the top of the vase.

4- Spray paint the whole thing along with the 2x4 piece of wood(12" long) a glossy black.

5- Cut strips of fabric (1 1/2"x54") to braid together. I used purple-#1 strand/orange & black-#2 strand and green with the orange crazy yarn- #3 strand.

6- Thread the fabric braid through the hole in the top of the dowel & tie a knot.

7- Unfold the big size paper clips (found at the Dollar Tree Dollar store) to hang the tags off of the "rope".

8-The Countdown Tags.

I cut some white cardstock then "aged" the edges with my black stamp pad. Finish the tags with some foam shapes & colored glitter glue(Walmart).

9- Adhere the vinyl lettering to the 2x4 wood block. Sand the edges.

Its now ready to countdown the days til Trick or Treat Night! Pin It

Halloween TREAT

{I'm sorry about this post coming after Halloween but my computer was being crazy so I couldn't post it last week} This a great idea so I'm posting it anyways-maybe it will work for you for next year.

After the kids go "Trick or Treat" -ing they get to pick some candy to eat (they usually like to count how many "pieces" they recieved while eating). Then we get a little sandwhich ziplock bag and they fill it. We set all the baggies {this candy secretly goes to the Bishop of our ward to fill his candy jar} out on the front door step for the Halloween Witch. [She is an old lady(aka the mom) who doesn't get any candy. So the kids share with her and she leaves them a treat.] In the morning they get to see what she has left them.

Our Halloween Witch leaves books.

Their leftover candy goes in their buckets.

I hope you all had a safe & wonderful Halloween.

Trick OR Treat?

I love how these blocks turned out when I made them last year.

I cut the wood(using 2x4's): Trick=3 1/2" x 7", Or= 3 1/2" x 2 1/2", Treat= 3 1/2" x 6", Orange=3 1/2" x 3 1/2". I hand made the clay ornaments to fit on the orange block. The other blocks I just cut paper to fit inside that block.

What Are YOU Going to Be for Halloween?

Hello ladies! I know... It's been FOREVER since I've posted. But like I've said before, my family comes first. And I've been so busy with them that there has been no time for blogging, unless I just don't sleep.

So are you thinking HALLOWEEN yet? I thought about it today when I stopped into Walmart and noticed the shelves being filled with costumes, big bags of candy, and spooky things. It's that time of year again- one of my favorite seasons! Cooler air, football games, Halloween decor, zuchini squash coming out our ears... I LOVE FALL!!

Halloween is still 6 1/2 weeks away, but will be here before we know it! Do your kids know what they want to be yet? Do you have special Halloween traditions that you like to do with your family each year? Do you and/or your husband dress up for Halloween? Do you do a grown-up costume party with friends? Do you make your own costumes or buy them? Where do you find the best deals on costumes?

I am looking forward to this FRIDAY, Sept. 18. Other Mothers, my fave store for kids, teens and prego moms (in Boise, Idaho) will be having an after hours preview sale of their Halloween costumes from 5-9 pm, open to the public! It will continue through Saturday (in the empty space 2 doors down). I've heard the costumes are quite plentiful this year! But you have to hurry, because they go fast!!

Savers is another place I find good deals on costumes and/or parts and accessories to costumes. There is always Walmart and Target too (along with others), and the costume rental shops if you are really serious about a certain costume. But those places can get pretty pricey!

If you want to make your own costumes, I highly recommend YouCanMakeThis.com for their downloadable patterns and eBooks! (They have tons of princessy and tutu patterns!)

I haven't been on blogs for a long time so I'm a little out of the loop. If you have a great fall or Halloween idea, tradition, or deal-find please tell me about it and/or send me a link! I'd love that!! Pin It
