Fabric {Ogee} Ornament

 I thought this ornament was so beautiful. Go here for a great tutorial.

I had some leftover Christmas fabric to use. 

Cut some felt (I used felt and corduroy) 5"x 5" square. Glue them together with "HeatnBond".

I made my own template so it would go faster when cutting. I used a very sharp box knife.

You could stitch them together at the points but I used "Liquid Stitch".

Fall Fabric Ribbon Garland

As we are counting down the days til General Conference, I thought it would be great to have something to hang all the pictures of the Apostles and First Presidency. 

I have the 8x10 pictures but to hang on this garland I used these. I punched out a tab to put in between the picture sheet and info sheet(double stick tape). I added extra to the clothespin by using glitter puffy paint, then spray a clear coat in gloss over the whole thing and then write the name in a sharpie marker.

Attach the pictures onto the garland with the clothespins.

How to make the Fabric Ribbon Garland:

Cut strips of fabric (I did 3 different colors in T-shirt, 8 printed cotton=1/2 yard each one, & tuelle)into 1 1/2"x21".

With the tuelle spool I cut the length to match the fabric strip(21") then cut it in 1/2. I only put the tuelle with the coordinating printed cotton fabric NOT the T-shirt material. it is a little wider than the fabric strip.

Layer the tuelle then the fabric over your "base" ribbon.

Tie a single knot.

 Slide the knotted fabric to combine with the other ones. Keep going in your pattern until you reach your desired length.( I did ours to fit our fireplace =8')

Audra's Wall Art

There is a store downtown Boise that has amazing designs(other inspiration ideas will be coming in future posts). They did a simple circle wall art and our daughter, Audra realized this would look great in her newly decorated room.

I built a frame using 2"x2" wood pieces(38"x61") to fit the $3.00 fabric I found on clearance(Home Fabric store).

She used the paint we had by putting some on a plate and dipping the top rim into the paint then applying it to the fabric. When it was all dry we then stapled it to the wood frame.

St. Patrick's Day Napkin Holder

I knew I could figure out a project to make with the stash of shower curtain rings I found at the second hand store. I thought these Napkin Rings would be fun to use for our special St. Patrick's Day meals.


Supplies: strips of green fabrics(about 10" in length) & shower curtain rings (second hand store or Dollar store).


Start tying the fabric strips (double knot) randomly around the ring.


Take the fabric and put it between your thumb and the blade of the scissors. Push down enough that the fabric will curl like ribbon.


Done all the way around.

Stitched Flower

When I was in Utah a little bit ago I went to this cute Quilting shop I visit every time I'm there. They had this Stitched Flower pinned on a dress. They didn't have a pattern to buy so I had to make my own.


I cut a 3 1/2" flower template out of chipboard (you could use cardstock). Cut a piece of fabric(fleece or cotton) big enough for the flower template and sandwich a piece of batting("Warm & Natural Needled Cotton Batting")in between the fabric layers. Using the template cut the fabric flower.


Stitch around the flower with coordinating thread.


Stitch a "gathering" stitch(with this cool tip) down the strip of fabric(1/2" x 20").


Take the gathered fabric strip and stitch regularly into a coil in the middle of the flower.


The frayed coiled fabric strip in the middle.


Add some embellishments in the center of the flower such as buttons & rhinestones. Now its Ready to Wear!

Easy Heart Wreath

I finally made a craft! It's been a while, since I'm now a working mom. But I needed something new for my front door for Valentine's month! So I created a simple heart-shaped wreath from 3/4 yard of fabric and 2 old wire hangers. Wanna make one?

Here's what you'll need:
-2 wire hangers
-3 (1/4 yard pieces) of fabric in coordinating colors
-Heavy-duty wire cutter/plyers
-Sewing scissors or rotary cutter

Preparing the Wire Heart:

1. "Un-twist" the hangers to pull them apart. (I did not need the plyers for this.) Squeeze the curved "hanger" part into an oval shape, so it can be used to hang the wreath! (This will be at the top/center of the heart.)
2. Cut one of the hangers in half with the heavy-duty plyers. (You only need 1 1/2 hangers for this project.)
3. Using the heavy-duty plyers, twist the 1 1/2 hangers together (with their already twisted parts).
4. Connect the ends at the top/center of the heart with plyers. (This will require some "elbow grease".)
5. Bend at the opposite end to make the bottom tip of the heart, then shape the rest of it into desired heart-shape.

Preparing the Fabric Strips:
1. Cut each of the three 1/4 yard (9") fabric pieces in half length-wise (which will leave you with 6 strips that measure 4 1/2 x 44").
2. Double up the fabric strips (or more depending on the quality of your scissors or rotary cutter) and cut about 1" strips all the way down. (You will end up with tons of little strips measuring about 1" x 4 1/2 ".)
3. Organize the strips into their own 3 groups.

Putting it Together:
1. Turn on a good chick-flick movie and get cumfy.
2. Tightly tie on all the little fabric strips to the wire heart in your desired pattern. (You do not have to tie a double knot.)
3. You're done! Hang up your wreath and show it off!! (In fact, take a pic and show me too!)

GREEN Pillow

I decided to use the left over sweater I didn't use for the Door Wreath to make this St. Patrick's Day Pillow.


I cut the middle section as big as I could get it.


Trace or write words on the "fabric".


Stitch the beads to form the word.


Remember to tie off after each letter.


All done with the beads.


Put right sides together-stitch & stuff.

{Secret} Destination

I love to surprise our kids. My favorite times are when our kids our blindfolded so they really have no clue. Since our two younger girls start school tomorrow i thought it would be fun to use our Blindfolds to go somewhere to cherish the last day of their summer break. I wanted an updated version of our blindfolds.


Our old version-a felt strip.


Our new inspiration(from Joann Fabrics in the Dollar bins).


Just take the eye cover and trace the outside edge on the wrong side of the fabric.


Cut it out, pin it & sew it.


I frayed mine using this tool. I like the look (I know with kids they'll eventually fray, so I'm saving myself a step) but you could easily fold the fabric over so it is a clean edge.
You could add their name to personalize it. I didn't so they would have the opportunity to trade and where a different one.

1 Year Advice

The other day as I was going thru our wedding memorabilia I found letters of advice that I could only open 1 year after we were married. So I decided to put them in a book for safe keeping. This was a great idea my aunt had for the Bridal Shower but you could easily do this for a Baby Shower for a new mom!


1-Cut 2 pieces of fabric and 1 piece of Heat n' Bond all the same(mine measured to fit 5x7 sheets of paper).


2-Iron the Heat n' Bond to one side of the fabric.


3-Remove paper sheet.


4-Put other piece of fabric on top and iron (this will give the "book cover" durability).


5-Stitch around all 4 sides. Fray the edge.


6-Stack paper on top of fabric (depending on how many letter of advice you received).


7-Tape in all the "advice" papers on each colored "page".

Now after 12 years of marriage its fun to reread the wonderful advice given and see how I have done. I will cherish these always! Pin It
