My Town Monday- Positive Parenting Class
I am so excited about parenting class! It starts this Tuesday Sept. 9th. It's called Positive Parenting, (taught by Carleen Tanner). It's a 10-week class (per sememster), and there are 2 times to choose from:
-Tuesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 at the LDS church on Birch and Garrity in Nampa. On Tuesdays they will provide child care for $3 per child.
-Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 at the Meridian High School Seminary building on Pine and Linder. No child care offered on Thursday evenings.
The class cost per semester is $12.50, payable to BYU-Idaho.
You do not need to pre-register. Just show up. (They will have an envelope there the first few weeks for you to sign up and drop in your fee, and you can take care of that before or after class.)
Come as you are. No need to dress up. Yay!
Many of my readers are members of my same church. If you are not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, you are still more than invited to come to parenting class! It's for everyone wanting to be a better parent!
Some notes about this class:
-It is religeously based, but you do not have to believe in our religion to come. Carleen T. teaches tried and true practices and principles to help us raise responsible, independant, virtuous adults. She has raised 10 children to be just that.
-It is for parents of kids of all ages and stages.
-You may wonder if this class is going to make you feel guilty, like you won't measure up and you're doing it all wrong. Not at all the case! It's all about changing percentages, and getting our "buckets filled" with tools and inspiration for a happier home and stronger family.
-You may think that if you go to a parenting class it means you are a bad parent, and others might see you seeking help because of it. NO WAY! :-) We are all there because we want to raise great kids and we ALL need help (whether we think we do or not)! Kids don't come with instructions (darn it)!
-Just a few of the many topics Carleen covers in this class: Self Esteem, Positive Discipline, Establishing Order (in the home), Praise vs. Encouragement, Competition vs. Cooperation, Teaching Responsibility and Work, Marriage.
-I am not "advertising" this to get gain for anyone else or myself. I am sharing this for YOU. I've been taking this class over and over for years, and I still learn something new each time. It strengthens me as a wife and mother and gives me the courage to keep going! I feel obligated to tell everyone, because it has changed my life so much and I don't want you to miss out.

Oh Angela - thank you for posting this!! I have taken Carleen's class four different times, but it has been awhile since I've gone to it. Thank you for reminding me that it is starting again! I think I just may try and do it! You are so right - it is an amazing class and I am such a better wife/mom when I attend! Carleen was in my ward for a year or so and she is such an amazing woman and a wonderful teacher!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info! I remember her from several years ago doing a fireside. I hope she comes this way someday...I will have to keep my ears open in case she ever decides to come to my neck of the woods!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post. I didn't know if she was teaching again this semester so this info was much appreciated. I'm definitely going to the Thursday night class. John's just going to have to find a different night to play basketball with the boys.
ReplyDeleteIs this class still happening? (April 2010) You mentioned it in a recent post and I would love to check it out!
