My Town Monday- OTHER MOTHERS

Other Mothers is located in West Boise on Fairview and Five Mile Rds. It has been here (in virtually the same spot) for many years.

This store is responsible for EVERYTHING I own (past or present) for my children. Their clothing, their cribs, highchairs, carseats, strollers, toys, ANYTHING that I buy for the kiddos are from Other Mothers.
If you have not been to Other Mothers, here is how it works:

You can trade in your gently used baby furniture, outgrown kids' clothing- sizes 0 to 14, maternity clothing, toys, etc. for an in-store credit or cash. The cash is given as soon as the trade-in is done and the credit is put onto your account on the computer to use that day or any time within 2 years of the trade-in date.

Things brought in must be clean (laundered) and neat. They won't accept anything with stains, rips, missing buttons, broken, etc. for obvious reasons. Things they don't take will be given back to you or donated to the 25 cent sale. That is your choice.

Here are the 2 managers of the store, Jodi and Lynn. We love them!!

Here are a few other girls that work there.

The last Friday and Saturday of every month, Other Mothers has their 25 CENT SALE!! It's crazy! Everything that is donated gets stored in big garbage bags all month and put in storage, and on QUARTER SALE morning Val (the owner) loads his truck full and puts it all out onto tables in front of the store.

Twice a year Other Mothers has an "Off-Site 25 Cent Sale" in April and October. That means a much bigger sale, with furniture and everything! The Off-Site sale is coming up in a few weeks, and will be held in the same strip mall as Other Mothers. I personally don't know the exact date, but I'll post the details when I find out!

Halloween costumes!!! TODAY is the day!!! Drop what you are doing and get over there so you don't miss out! There are tons of costumes in all sizes. They go FAST, so I would get over there asap!

Happy shopping!!

  2. I shop there all the time. I get pretty frustrated with their trade ins though. What's the deal when they don't take some super cute, in style, clean, brand name item and then you look through the racks and find sorta ratty out of date stuff you'd expect to find at DI? And what is up with the times you bought something there, used it once and then took it back to trade in and now suddenly it's not good enough to accept? No sense!
Sorry, that is my little rant, but I do all my kid shopping there as well.

  3. Anonymous commenter- Sorry you feel the way you do and thought you had a bad experience with a trade-in at this awesome store. If there are "ratty" things on the racks it means that someone took it in by mistake. I've even seen a questionable item every once in a while, and wonder what the heck! WE also have to remember that this IS a second-hand store. There are tons of items coming through and being processes quickly, so is always possible for something to be missed.

They are way over stocked with 0-12 month clothes right now and some other things. When that happens, they can't accept any more of those certain items for a while. It's not because the items are not super cute and name brand. You can always talk to the gals that did your trade-in to find out the reasons they didn't accept something. Hope you have a better experience the next time! :)

  7. I just ran across your blog and began wondering if you were in Boise, ID from reading some of your posts. We lived there for 6 years. My husband was a youth minister down the street from the temple on Cole Rd. We just moved to Colorado. How I miss Other Mother's and their 25 cent sale. I went every month and stocked up for all of my boys. Now, I have to figure out something else come this next fall when my oldest son will need more clothes. It is nice to "meet" you. Have a blessed new year!
